Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld Malaysia) announced today that the Group’s Core EBIT from its Malaysian operations grew by 30.9% from RM62.1 million in 2Q 2017 to RM81.3 million in 2Q 2018. This is mainly attributable to three of its Malaysian joint-ventures, namely Eco Grandeur, Eco Ardence and Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) having commenced revenue and profit recognition which enabled RM9.0 million to be recognised as the Group’s share of profit from its Malaysian joint-ventures versus a loss of RM5.3 million in 2Q 2017.

Eco World names Liew chairman
Former SP Setia Bhd President and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin has been appointed chairman of property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd. Joining him is his right-hand man Datuk Voon Tin Yow, who has been appointed executive director. Liew joined Eco World’s board as a director last May. Voon was formerly Acting President and CEO of SP Setia and took over from Liew last May following Liew’s departure. Liew’s son Tian Xiong, also a board member, has a 35.05% stake in Eco World. The other appointment to the board was Datuk Noor Farida Mohd Ariffin, a lawyer and judge who has served with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Commonwealth Secretariat. Liew replaces Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Manaf, who remains on the board as a nonexecutive director. These appointments take effect today.

Mitsui Fudosan (Asia) Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MFAM) and BBCC Development Sdn Bhd (BBCCD) entered into a JV agreement to form a JV company known as MFBBCC Serviced Suites Sdn Bhd (JVCo) to purchase a serviced residence block in the Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) development for RM242 million. MFAM will hold 51% and BBCCD 49% in the JVCo, which will manage and operate the property including granting of tenancies of units within the property.
