Puchong: Desks and chairs are essential items in every school to ensure a conducive learning environment for students. In its latest effort to assist the needy, the Eco World Foundation was quick to respond to a call by a school in Selangor to help with the replacement of desks and chairs which had been worn out over the years.  A total of 100 sets of students’ desks and chairs worth RM11,000 was donated to SJK(C) Sin Ming Puchong, Selangor.

At the handing over ceremony at SJK(C) Sin Ming, Puchong; Eco World Foundation Chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the Foundation believed strongly in education as an investment for the country’s future. “A good education has the power to change someone’s life for the better. This is the main reason why we are focused on providing education assistance to the schools that need our help,” said Lee.

Lee added that the team delivered the brand-new desks and chairs to the school during the mid-year term break after receiving their application for assistance back in April 2017.

Since its’ inception in 2014, the Foundation had donated over 2,500 sets of desks and chairs to schools in several regions. To date, a total of RM350,000 had been spent on providing various facilities as well as replacing school furniture.

Lee also said that the Foundation adhered to stringent quality checks to ensure the durability of the desks and chairs to ensure they could withstand wear and tear.

The Foundation’s main programme is the EcoWorld Students Aid Programme (SAP) which provides financial assistance to the underprivileged primary and secondary students with the objective of keeping children of all races in school. Currently, the Foundation is helping 3,000 primary and secondary school students from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Pahang, Johor & Sabah.

With a budget of RM5 million per year, the SAP practices a holistic approach by addressing every aspect of a primary student’s educational requirements–from equipping them for the new school year including arranging their meals in schools to paying their school and tuition fees.

Apart from these activities, the Foundation also seeks to help underprivileged Malaysians through counselling, home visits and career guidance.
