EcoWorld opens first magazine library café at Eco Grandeur & signs MOU with oBike Inc.

PUNCAK ALAM: Grandeur Labs saw the opening of its first tenant, INK Library Café – a library of magazines, a coffee section, and space for community activities today.

The INK Library Café is a fresh and new concept café that offers over 300 imported magazines for avid readers to enjoy a good read as well as good coffee. The café also displays and sells an array of arts and crafts made by local talents.

President & CEO of Eco World Development Group Berhad [Eco World] Dato Chang Khim Wah said “With the opening of the café, we are able to attract more people to read and enjoy the various types of imported magazines and in return be able to gain more knowledge. The reading habit must be cultivated from young and we hope that we are able to encourage the youths to read more with this café.”

Grandeur Labs is part of the 200-acre Eco Grandeur City, the commercial component of the 1,400-acre Eco Grandeur township which carries a GDV of RM9 billion. Eco Grandeur Labs offers 15 retail lots with a built-up of 1,000 sq ft and will see the opening of a bike park which is scheduled for completion in mid-2018 alongside other retail offerings and F&B outlets.

Following the opening of the INK Library Café, EcoWorld signed a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] with oBbike Malaysia Sdn Bhd [oBike] a company to provide station-less smart bike-sharing system to EcoWorld developments. Eco Grandeur will be the first EcoWorld project to kick start this venture.

oBike is a station-less bicycle provider based in Singapore focusing on last-mile transportation and commute. oBike operates in 10 countries namely Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Netherland, United States and Germany.

Chang said that the cycling trend is going strong and it is pleasing to see more people joining on the fun as it is in line with the Group’s mission to promote a healthy lifestyle and culture to its communities.

“We noticed that cycling is steadily gaining momentum as it helps reduce traffic, CO2 emissions and promote a healthy lifestyle as it is a great way to lose weight, socialise and reduce stress. We were impressed by the amazing turn up we had when we held the New Straits Times (NST) C-Cycle Challenge 2017 earlier in May.” added Chang.

“In many of our townships, we have built dedicated bicycle lanes to encourage our communities towards embracing a healthier lifestyle.

“We have also provided a bicycle-for-hire scheme and this is already available in our Eco Botanic project in Iskandar Malaysia. In the Klang Valley, Eco Sanctuary boasts a 30km cycling path for its residents.

“With the addition of the oBikes in our developments, we are able to expand our reach to more people and further promote and encourage them to take up cycling.

“The 1.3-acre bike park which will start operating concurrently with the rest of the 15 retail outlets in Grandeur labs by May 2018 will be the first bike park we have in our development and it is a perfect platform to promote healthy living for families where both the children and the adults can enjoy different cycling experiences.” said Chang.

Also present at the event today was EcoWorld Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer Datuk Heah Kok Boon, EcoWorld Chief Operating Officer Dato’ S.Rajoo, EcoWorld Executive Director Liew Tian Xiong, Eco Grandeur Divisional General Manager Ho Kwee Hong, oBike Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder Jin Chao Hui and oBike Business Launcher Ng Yong Ching.
