#AnakAnakMalaysia: The Biggest Batik in Malaysia

JOHOR: In the spirit of unity and diversity, Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld) hosted the “The Biggest Batik in Malaysia” event in conjunction with the on-going #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign by the Group at Eco Business Park I.

The historical event, which garnered over 600 participants, saw people from all walks of life, with students from national schools, international schools and universities to members of the public coming together as one to complete the 25m x 25m batik painting.

“We are extremely happy to see the younger generation coming forward to participate in this event. It’s not only about fun but promoting multicultural understanding and embracing our nation’s rich diversity,” said President and CEO of Eco World Development Group Bhd Dato’ Chang Khim Wah in his speech.

The batik design elements carry unique designs – the Chinese knot motif, Malay wau motif and the Indian kolam motif that combine seamlessly and best demonstrates the harmonious Malaysian society we have despite being a country with diverse cultures and beliefs.

After several fruitful hours of painting in unity, the Malaysia Book of Records inspected the 25mx25m painting and awarded the certificate to EcoWorld’s Divisional General Manager Hoe Mee Ling. The painting will be displayed at Eco Business Park I from 16th September to 18th September. Another concurrent event that will take place during the Malaysia Day weekend is the World Cuisine Festival – a festival that gathers 180 booths featuring food and culture of countries all over the world including Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan and Japan.

The colourful event was witnessed by Datuk Haji Abd Latif Bin Haji Bandi, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Perumahan & Kerajaan Tempatan, Negeri Johor.

The event also offered other fun and interactive craft workshops such as batik art painting and wau making. Visitors even had a go at spinning their own gasing alongside other entertaining activities including a showcase of various traditional childhood games that complement and cultivate public appreciation towards local craft.

“As a developer with projects not only in Malaysia but in the UK and Australia, we believe that diversity is key and we should try to learn from other cultures as much as we can for us to continue to grow in this fast-paced world,” said Chang. He added that EcoWorld was proud to be running the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign in collaboration with Star Media Group for the second year.

The “The Biggest Batik in Malaysia” is one of the many activities under the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign that runs from Aug 18 to Sept 16. Apart from the nationwide distribution of #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands, other notable activities held included the #AnakAnakMalaysia unity walk. This was held across the region at EcoWorld Galleries in BBCC @ Kuala Lumpur and Eco Tropics and Eco Spring @ Johor.
