KUALA LUMPUR: In a celebration of 59 years of Malaysia’s Independence, the nation’s leading English daily and Malaysia’s fastest rising property developer, invited all Malaysians to walk the talk in the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2016.
For a second year in a row, Star Media Group and Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld) joined forces for the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign. Last year’s campaign took social media platforms by storm, with our fellow Malaysians wearing the #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands, creatively expressing their patriotism and their thoughts on what it means to be Malaysians.
This year, in celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, Star Media Group and EcoWorld took the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign a step further by organising the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2016, calling for an active participation of walking together in celebration of our country’s diversity, and in promotion of unity, harmony and tolerance.
The walk was flagged off by Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, accompanied by Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, Chairman of EcoWorld and Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, Chairman of Star Media Group. More than 5000 participants turned up for the 3.4km walk, starting at Bukit Bintang City Centre, between the junction of Jalan Imbi and Jalan Pudu, at the site of the former Pudu Jail.
The campaign is supported by the #AnakAnakMalaysia influencers who are public figures, and members of society from all walks of life who have strong influence in the Malaysian community. The walk saw the likes of Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah, daughter of His Royal Highness, The Sultan of Selangor; Datuk Seri Nazir Razak; Harith Iskander, Lisa Surihani and other high profile personalities walking the talk for unity and harmony.
A performance by the EcoWorld Symphony Drummers greeted the participants at the flag off point, and the day ended with several lucky draw winners walking away with prizes thanks to the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk sponsors. The Grand Prize lucky draw winner won a Proton Suprima S, courtesy of Proton.
Other sponsors include Panasonic (Gold Sponsor), Tenaga Nasional and YES (Silver Sponsors).
The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk was also made available on live stream, reaching out to Malaysians around the world at TheStarTV.com/live/anak-anak-malaysia-2016.
Continuing on with last year’s initiative, the #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands will be distributed nationwide, and Malaysians are invited once again to show their love for our country with the hashtag #AnakAnakMalaysia. A total of 850,000 wristbands will be distributed with The Star newspaper from 15 August onwards.
