Eco World Foundation donates tables and chairs worth RM186,300 to 10 schools

CHERAS: Tables and chairs are essential items in every school to ensure a conducive learning environment for students. In its latest effort to assist the needy, the Eco World Foundation was quick to respond to the call for aid by 10 schools to help with the replacements of tables and chairs which had worn out over the years.

A total of 1,725 tables and chairs worth RM186,300 have been donated to eight schools in the Klang Valley and two schools in Perlis and Johor Bahru, respectively. The ten schools are SJK(C) Yak Chee Puchong, SJK(C) Ladang Harcroft Puchong, SJK(C) Kota Emerald Rawang, SJK(C) Bukit Serdang, SJK(C) Batu 11 Cheras, SJK(C) Kung Man Serdang Lama, SJK(C) Batu 14 Hulu Langat, SJK(C) Pui Chi Kuala Selangor, SJK(C) Foon Yew 1 Johor Bahru and SJK(C) Choon Siew Perlis.

At the handing over ceremony in SJK(C) Batu 11 Cheras, Eco World Foundation Chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the Foundation believed strongly in education as an investment for the country’s future. “A good education has the power to change someone’s life for the better, this is the main reason why we are focused on providing education assistance to the schools that need our help,” said Lee.

He added that the brand-new tables and chairs were delivered to the schools at the beginning of this year, just in time to cater to the start of the 2015 new school term.

Lee also shared that the Foundation adhered to stringent quality checks on the tables and chairs to ensure their durability to withstand wear and tear.

About 300 students and teachers attended the simple ceremony which saw Lee hand over mock cheques to representatives of the schools.

The Eco World Foundation was launched on 24 September last year and its main programme is the Eco World Student Aid Programme (SAP) which provides financial assistance to the underprivileged primary and secondary students with the objective of keeping disadvantaged children of all races in school. To date, the Foundation has adopted 2,650 students from Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Pahang & Sabah.

With a budget of RM4 million per year, the SAP practices a holistic approach by addressing every aspect of a primary student’s educational requirements, from equipping them for the new school year and arranging meals in school to paying their school and tuition fees.

Apart from the SAP, the Foundation seeks to help underprivileged Malaysians to improve their quality of life and it focuses on promoting education which is a key element in breaking the cycle of poverty facing many in the country.
