EB Group Acquires 20 Acres in Eco Business Park V For Expansion Plans In Selangor

Puncak Alam: EB Group, the manufacturer and distributor of frozen food held a groundbreaking ceremony at Eco Business Park V (EBP V) today to set up its first plant in Selangor.

The guest of honour for the event was YDP of Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Selangor Rahilah Binti Rahmat. Other notable attendees included Manjit Kaur Balkar Singh, Director of Food Technology and Resource Based Industries Division of MIDA and Dato’ Sri Dr Haji Irmohizam Ibrahim Group Managing Director of World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld) was represented by Ho Kwee Hong, Divisional General Manager.

Founded in Butterworth, EB is well known for its extensive range of products and has four manufacturing plants with a total factory size of 39 acres, all located in the Northern region. In April this year, the Group purchased 20 acres of land in EBP V as part of its expansion plans to set up its first plant in Selangor.

With a substantial investment of RM350 million, the new plant in EBP V will include food production, warehouses, an R&D innovation centre, a 4-storey office, a 5-storey carpark and multi-storey hostels.

Ang Chin Hooi, Chairman & Founder of EB Group shared that when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it increased the tolerance of consumers towards frozen food, which also increased their willingness to make purchases. On the other hand, lacking manpower and global raw materials shortage has encouraged food chains to choose semi-cooked products.

“With our new plant in Selangor, we expect to increase the production capacity by a total of 120,000 tonnes per year. We believe consumers will have confidence in our brands and propel us to excel in the industry,” Ang added.

Ang said the Group chose to expand its business in EBP V as the location was strategic and convenient to access. “It is between ports, city centres and markets from Northern, Central to Southern Malaysia, which also a cost-competitive advantage. Furthermore, it is very well-planned and beautifully designed and we look forward to great potential growth together with EcoWorld.”

Ho Kwee Hong, EcoWorld’s Divisional General Manager said: “We look forward to welcoming EB Group to our growing business community here in EBP V and we are confident the new plant will enable EB to scale its business further and cement its status as a household brand locally and internationally.”

As one of the largest industrial parks in the Klang Valley and strategically located in the growth corridor of Ijok, EBP V has thrived since its launch in 2017. To date, two phases have been completed with occupancies of over 85% for East Gate and West Gate.

Ho also noted that with 2,000 job opportunities available when the plant is completed in 2024, EB Group will certainly contribute to EcoWorld’s efforts in making EBP V one of the best in the country and a key job centre offering reputable employment opportunities for the people of Selangor.
