Education a priority for Eco World

PETALING JAYA: Education has always been a priority for Eco World Development Group Bhd, which believes in nurturing young talent and giving underprivileged students an opportunity to attend school.

The new player in the property development industry lent a helping hand by sponsoring RM20,000 to The Star’s UPSR Excellence Camp this year. The workshops are designed for Year Six pupils who will be taking the national examination in September.

“Education is truly an important tool for a person’s future advancement and for the less privileged. It is even more vital as it is a means for them to end the cycle of poverty that they are in,” said Eco World Development Group director Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

He said the company, also the main sponsor of the workshops, supported education efforts, especially workshops like the ones organised by The Star.

“We want these young students to be confident when they sit for the exams, we want them to be prepared,” he said when met at Menara Star yesterday for the presentation of a mock cheque from Lee and Eco World Development Group director Liew Tian Xiong to The Star executive editor Brian Martin.

There will be four workshops in Penang and Selangor.

The first was held last weekend at University Sains Malaysia, Penang, while the next will be held on June 28 in SM Tinggi Bukit Mertajam, followed by two others in Petaling Jaya on Aug 9 and 10.

The speakers will be experienced teachers who will guide pupils in Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia, Science, English and the Chinese language.

For details and registration for the workshops, call The Star Circulation Department at 1-700-81-7788 or 03-7967-1388 ( ext 1131 Siti / ext 1437 Sunder).
