Eco World Foundation Hands Over “Knowledge Capsule” to SJKC Ying Wah

Kapar: The Eco World Foundation today officially handed over the newly completed “Knowledge Capsule” (学海舱) to SJKC Ying Wah, a mini library cum multipurpose activities pod designed to cultivate a love for reading and inspire lifelong learning among students.

The handover ceremony was attended by Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of Eco World Foundation, together with Mr Low Chee Xiang, Headmaster of SJKC Ying Wah; Mr Lim Teng Huat Chairman of the Board of Governors; Mdm Lee Biau Gan, Chairperson of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and Mr Tan Cheng Yap, Chairman of the school’s alumni association.

For this project, a total of RM42,000 was invested to bring the Knowledge Capsule to life — fully sponsored by Eco Sanctuary as part of EcoWorld Foundation’s continuous efforts to support education. Remarkably, the facility was completed within just three weeks, showcasing the dedication and teamwork of Team EcoWorld from Eco Sanctuary.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said: “The Knowledge Capsule is more than just a library — it is a space where curiosity can flourish and where students can discover the joy of reading. We hope it will encourage lifelong learning and nurture a strong reading culture within the school community.”
Designed as an open-concept learning pod, the Knowledge Capsule features air-conditioning, floor-seating facilities, and simple yet functional furnishings to create a cosy and inviting space where students can immerse themselves in knowledge and creativity.

This initiative also marks EcoWorld’s third Knowledge Capsule project this year, following two similar mini libraries completed in other schools. In total, the EcoWorld Foundation has invested RM162,000 across all three projects, underscoring its strong commitment to fostering reading habits and enhancing learning environments for students nationwide.

The Knowledge Capsule will serve multiple purposes, including hosting reading sessions, storytelling activities, and student-led book-sharing events. Teachers can also leverage the space to guide students and enrich classroom learning. Strategically located at the heart of Ying Wah’s green courtyard — adjacent to the canteen and school hall — the facility is designed to be accessible, comfortable, and well-loved by students and teachers alike.

The Knowledge Capsule will be open daily during morning recess (10:00 a.m. – 10:20 a.m.), while each class will also enjoy a dedicated hour of reading there every week. Looking ahead, the school plans to extend its usage to after-school hours next year, subject to manpower availability.

Tan Sri Lee also encouraged students to value and care for the new facility: “I sincerely hope that the students of Ying Wah will make full use of this facility and cherish the Knowledge Capsule, which was not easy to build. Please do not let down the expectations placed on you. Take good care of the equipment and facilities, so that many more students in the years to come can also benefit from it.”

SJKC Ying Wah is among one of several schools supported by the Eco World Foundation under its Students Aid Programme (SAP), with 20 students from the school currently benefiting. To date, the programme has assisted around 2,000 students nationwide, ensuring that children from underprivileged backgrounds have access to quality education and learning resources.

EcoWorld remains steadfast in its mission to give back to the community by supporting schools of all streams through enhanced educational facilities, both in hardware and software. The Foundation also hopes to inspire more corporations to join hands in similar initiatives to help build a more caring and compassionate Malaysia, in line with the EcoWorld Cares programme.

This latest Knowledge Capsule project is yet another testament to the Eco World Foundation’s ongoing commitment to education, ensuring that students are provided with enriching learning environments and greater opportunities for personal growth.
